DXC Technology is one of the world’s leading technology service providers, with 125,000 employees in 70 countries providing consulting, engineering, and technology services. Among the biggest challenges DXC faced in its global customer base were data that was fragmented across too many different locations and applications, and the unmet desire to use AI in more ways to increase automation and productivity.

In addition to helping companies implement IT best practices, DXC offers its own software-as-a-service automotive application, International Material Data Systems (IMDS), to help global manufacturers manage material compliance. By migrating to Autonomous Database on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), the company was able to run separate instances for testing, development, and production, including for its IMDS systems, at a lower cost than in the previous environment. Using AI capabilities built into Oracle Database, DXC aims to build chatbots to improve IMDS user support and create intelligent tools that help users achieve better data quality and analysis.

The unique thing we see with Oracle Database 23ai is the ability to seamlessly integrate and use data from applications without needing to move and copy data. This helps DXC automate deployments and bring AI capabilities to the data much more quickly.

Why DXC chose Oracle

DXC chose Oracle Autonomous Database on OracIe Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) for its cost benefits, enhanced security and performance, simplified database management, excellent support, and a long-standing partnership with Oracle. The DXC Data and AI team is also developing a proof of concept for an AI chatbot that would use the vector search capabilities of Oracle Database 23ai to provide semantic search.

Results

Using Oracle Autonomous Transaction Processing database on OCI, DXC modernized applications by automating the data integration of structured, unstructured, and real-time data into one platform. This removed complex data engineering, allowing DXC to deliver more valuable business insights to customers faster.

The company also plans to migrate its applications and select client organizations to Oracle Database 23ai, which would make it easier for DXC’s global clients to bring AI models to data residing in their multicloud and hybrid environments. Database 23ai allows DXC to choose open source AI models or proprietary large language models that would help address specific compliance requirements.
